Mr George Campanellas will assume his duties as the new Director General of Invest Cyprus in late May, following the completion of the recruitment process.
Mr George Campanellas is a graduate of the Department of International and European Studies of the Athens University of Economics and Business with post-graduate studies in Public Sector Management (Master’s in Public Sector Management) and Business Administration (MBA in Oil & Gas and Energy Management). During the past 16 years he has held various positions within the public service. Since 2013, he was employed at the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism where he was actively involved in drafting the regulatory framework and incentives for attracting Foreign Direct Investment in sectors of strategic importance to the economy. He has been actively involved in the development of the integrated casino resort, being also member of its Project Management Team. Since 2015, he has participated as a speaker in a number of business missions abroad, presenting investment opportunities in different sectors of the Cyprus economy, while also serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Invest Cyprus.
The recruitment process for the new Director General of the Organisation was set in motion following the appointment of Mrs Natasa Pilides as Deputy Minister for Shipping. Interest in the position was keen, with more than 200 curricula vitae submitted. Shortlisted candidates were asked to take a written exam, as well as attend an interview before the Board of Directors of the Organisation.
The Chairman of Invest Cyprus, Mr Michalis P Michael wished the new Director General every success. “Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, I am certain that Mr Campanellas will successfully fulfil the requirements of the position and do his utmost to continue the efforts to promote Cyprus as an attractive investment destination.”
On his part, Mr Campanellas thanked the Board of Directors of the Organisation for his appointment, reiterating his readiness to continue the work underway with the same dedication. “I am honoured to have been selected to serve, from the position of the Director General, an organisation whose work is of particular importance to the overall efforts of the State to achieve sustainable, long term growth.” Mr Campanellas has signed a five year contract with the Organisation.
