7th EU - Southeast Europe Summit

Invest Cyprus is the bronze sponsor of the 7th EU - Southeast Europe Summit, one of the most anticipated Economist Events of the year.

Without a doubt, the year 2019 is set to be pivotal for the Balkan region. In a ceremony replete with symbolism, Greece and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia met in the Prespes lake district for the signing of an agreement to end the decades long dispute leading to the renaming of Greece’s northern neighbour paving the way for the country’s accession to the EU and NATO. Negotiations with the Western Balkan countries are also ongoing. On the other hand, Southeast Europe now has the opportunity for bold policy initiatives to boost innovation and competiveness and to raise the skills and education level. In a nutshell – it should fulfill its potential for growth and enhance its attractiveness as an investment location.

Serbia has passed through a period of dramatic change, managing a rapidly evolving political and economic environment. Serbia hopes to achieve EU accession by 2025. Significant progress has been made so far in structural and institutional reforms. Most importantly, investment growth is picking up as Serbia’s improved business environment and prospective EU integration make the country more attractive to investors.

The Economist Events have great pleasure in announcing that Serbia has been selected to be the host country for the organisation of this year’s seventh annual EU-Southeast Europe summit to take place in Belgrade on October 4th & 5th 2018.
